Es hat sich so als Wald-und Wiesen-Vorurteil durchgesetzt, Heavy Metal per se als unpolitisch zu bezeichnen. Warum eigentlich? Schon auf dem zweiten Album von Black Sabbath „Paranoid“, redet Ozzy Osbourne allen Interessierten ins Gewissen:
Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses
Evil minds that plot destruction
Sorcerer of death’s construction
In the fields, the bodies burning
As the war machine keeps turning
Death and hatred to mankind
Poisoning their brainwashed minds
Oh lord, yeah!
Und in der zweiten Strophe ergänzt er das metaphorisch verklausulierte Kriegsszenario noch um eine einfach, aber gültige Analyse der Verantwortlichkeiten:
Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor
Man könnte das vielleicht als etwas einfach gestrickt bezeichnen, aber wohl kaum als unpolitisch. Auf einen groben Klotz gehört nun mal ein grober Keil und das gilt auch für die politischen Aussagen des Heavy Metal.
