Es ist schon erstaunlich, wie viel Ruhm sich ein Mensch mit einem einzigen Album aufbauen kann. „Back To Black“ verkaufte sich weltweit über 20 Millionen Mal, eine eigentlich unfassbare Zahl zu heutigen Zeiten. Die Debütplatte „Frank“, von der sich vier Stücke auf „At The BBC“ wiederfinden, hat ja nur als kleines Vorspiel zum grossen Durchbruch zu gelten. Von „Back To Black“ haben es gleich fünf Songs aus dem Reigen an Hits auf dieses Album geschafft. Insgesamt zeigt „At The BBC“, dass mit Amy Winehouse tatsächlich viel mehr als nur ein Bienenkorbpüppchen gegangen ist. Hier ist, unabhängig von den perfekt produzierten Studioplatten, eine wirkliche Künstlerin am Werk, die im Grunde nicht viel Trara brauchte, um hinreissende Musik zu machen. Umso tragischer, dass es Winehouse in den Jahren nach „Back To Black“ so unfassbar entglitten ist, so dass kaum noch trennbar war, was nun die öffentliche Amy ist, die sich vor der Presse schützen und ein bisschen Privatsphäre aufrecht erhalten wollte.
Auf „At The BBC“ finden sich viele zurückgenommene, sehr spielfreudige Lounge- und Jazz-Versionen der Songs der beiden Alben. Einzig „You Know I’m No Good“ funktioniert nicht ganz so gut wie in der Studioversion. Mit „I Should Care“, „Lullaby Of Birdland“ und „To Know Him Is To Love Him“ sind zudem noch drei Klassiker aus den 1950ern sowie der Hit „Valerie“, im Original von The Zutons, auf dem Album. Als kleinen Bonus enthält „At the BBC“ die einstündige Documentary „Arena: Amy Winehouse – The Day She Came To Dingle“, auf der Winehouse im kleineren Rahmen sechs Songs von „Back To Black“ zum Besten gibt und mittels Interviews viel darüber zu erfahren ist, wer die Britin beeinflusste. Zu einer Zeit als sie selbst noch mehr Vor- als Warnbild war. Auf „At The BBC“ verblasst nur das Drama

I do like Amy Winehouse and her music. She sings all sorts of genres from old soul to reggae and R&B. Some songs from „Live At The BBC Sessions“ are very nice as well. Possibly a good afternoon to have a listen?

Amy Winehouse is a contemporary icon. Her interpretation of song rates with the greats: Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. Her voice and taste in verse reminds me of Dusty Springfield. Sadly, she is often compared to Janis Joplin. Sad, because Joplin was coming into her own with her best (and unfinished album, Pearl) when she died. Winehouse had reached her pinnacle and was tumbling from it when she died. It is heartbreaking that we will never know if she would pulled out of the fall or not.

Amy Winehouse was a talented lady. Her music is a soulful throwback to the time when Motown dominated the R&B couture. Yes, you can hear Billie Holiday ringing out from her voice or Dusty Springfield. She also did a few tribute songs to Janis Joplin. I think they both had their similarities, even if they were from different decades. The „BBC Sessions“ give excellent view of Winhouse’s depth and range. Better even than studio productions and the „hit“ version of her songs.

Well yeah, she had something between Jazz and the girl groups of the sixties and Hip-Hop a la Lauren Hill but on the cusp and penumbra of all of that, she had something very special.

Amy Winehouse was a wonderful singer. IMO she would have been the voice of the 21st century.

Amy Winehouse was brilliant. Her writing, singing, heart and soul were very special. And I felt empathy for this young woman with such great talent who could not get or take the help she needed with her demons and addictions.

I don’t know this one. Truth be told I wasn’t even aware of it. Any Winehouse was quite the talent… I think if she’d been around longer she could have been widely considered one of the very best. Troubled but absolutely incredible.

Thanks J. Amy Winehouse was a charismatic singer. Too bad that she died so early. I think a lot more of expressive music would have come from her. It’s a shame, above all, that apparently nobody from the area could help her. It was obvious that the woman had big problems. After her death, of course, they flipped busy through the archives to find recordings that could be sold. The CD and a DVD with the title „Amy Winehouse At The BBC“ but also proves that the british media house stands for a certain quality. I particularly like the way Winehouse approaches classic songs as „Lullaby of Birdland“ or „Valerie“.

Janis II.; ein großes Talent ging vor die Hunde – und auch ganz schlimm waren ihre häßlichen Tatoos. Versteh ich bis heute nicht, weshalb sich gut aussehende Menschen freiwillig zur Klo-Tür machen.

Amy Winehouse war zweifellos eine begabte Musikerin. Sie hatte ihre Selbstzerstörung erst ironisch, dann beklemmend und zuletzt verzweifelt in aller Öffentlichkeit inszeniert. Dabei wurde sie von der Presse und dem Publikum und der Plattenfirma in einer kaum verhohlenen Mischung aus Abscheu, Faszination und Zynismus beobachtet und angetrieben.
